How does diabetes affect sexual health in a woman? Leave a comment

Most people believe that diabetes only affects sexual health in men only. This is a wrong concept.
Diabetes has an adverse effect on women as much as it has on men. To put it simply, diabetes is a
disease that causes problems with the blood sugar levels. Experts believe that when the glucose
level in a woman’s body is off the point, it can wreak havoc with a woman’s sexual desire.

The main reason behind this is that when the blood sugar level is high, it can cause disturbances with
the vaginal lubrications in the female. Lubrication in women is very crucial. It makes sex smoother,
less painful and more pleasurable. Without enough and proper lubrication, sex isn’t only
uncomfortable but can be downright painful. Such an experience may put a woman off from sex
altogether and wreck her sexual life, and slowly her sexual health. Hence, diabetes has damaging
effects on the woman’s sexual health by affecting her vaginal lubrication.

This isn’t the only issue that women face however. Another issue that women may face is that of
achieving pleasure and ultimately an orgasm from sex. The blood sugar levels are responsible for
microcirculation. Microcirculation is basically the system of very tiny blood vessels that feed the
nerves and create sensation in them. When the blood sugar levels aren’t ideal, it affects the
microcirculation badly and hence decreases sensations during sex. Moreover, the most affected part
is the clitoris, which is actually a tiny bundle of countless nerves responsible for sexual sensations in
a woman. Also, one big point is that flow of blood is the biggest factor when it comes to sexual
arousal. When blood flows south to the genitals, a person becomes sexually aroused. With the
circulation impaired, sexual arousal may become very difficult. This means that not only sex is
affected, but also the sexual libido.

Other than these, there are other things that occur due to diabetes and effect the sexual health
badly. When one is diabetic patient, it is common to become tired easily. A person always feels
fatigued and down. Moreover, some people may even become cranky or snappy. Passing out or
becoming sick during sex is also a major problem.

In addition to this, women with diabetes are more prone to falling sick than healthy people. This
means that they also have to worry about vaginal infections and tract yeast infections, since their
bodies aren’t as immune to diseases as they should be. Insulin therapy also causes weight gain In
many people. This leads women to feel unattractive and result in a low self-esteem. Even if their
partner isn’t necessarily disinterested in them, they feel this due to their condition and the
relationship suffers along with the sex life. For such women, it is important to communicate with
their partners openly, and their partners must support them fully and seek professional counsel to
solve the problems related to their partner’s sexual health.
